Five Spotted Burnet

Five-spotted Burnet, originally uploaded by andyskelton.

Nestled in amongst the plants on our patio, was a Five-Spotted Burnet (Zygaena trifolii) a beautiful moth, active during the day. It’s antenna were very distinctive, large compared to it’s over all size but also being elegantly shaped.

Looking back at the photos afterwards, I did notice on each of the pictures what looks like a red tick on it’s eye, which looks quite gruesome when you zoom into it.

The real treat, more than photographing it, was then watching feed on the flowers it was sitting on. Magical.
