The 15th Commandment

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s mobile phone, that little known Commandment is never truer than at the moment. Whilst a great number of people will have their eye on the iPhone 5 (following on from yesterday’s blog… the iPhone 5 is like the iPhone 4 but it’s “One More”) however I’m obsessing, in the same way as I have over the Fuji X-Pro1, over the gorgeous (but rather large) Samsung Galaxy S III. As you know I already have an Android mobile phone, the best phone I’ve had in the 15 to 20 years I’ve owned a mobile, but it is feeling a little long in the tooth now, under powered, lacking in memory, smallish screen etc and as I’m about reach the renewal date of my phone contract I’m entitled to a new phone, all which I’ve mentioned before. I should be more than happy with the HTC One V I can get for free, but as I spend so much time on my cell phone (not making actual calls you must understand, don’t need that functionality much these day) with apps like Twitter, Facebook, my blog etc it is tempting to look at something bigger and shinier, and in the Android field they don’t get much bigger or shinier than the Galaxy S III. With its quad core processor, 4.8 inch screen, and 8 Megapixel camera it’s certainly up to the job – however there is one downside at 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm I’d need to buy a whole new wardrobe so I had trousers with big enough pockets to accommodate the phone.

I happened upon an amazing set of photographs on the BBC website today, in the childrens section of all places. They were photos for new Guinness World Records holders, amongst them were the biggest dog, biggest donkey, biggest horse and smallest bull who in order were 111.8cm, 155.45cm, 210.19cm and 76.2cm tall. The photos just look odd as their respective owners stand by the side of each creature, it looks like someone has enlarged (or shrunk in the case of the bull) each of the animals* – like one of those forced perspective photos that seem to be all the rage these days, so much so that even my boy has thought up some such snaps to take. Luckily we only have pet fish and they’re not that easy to pose outside of the tanks.
