African Elephant, originally uploaded by andyskelton-a Blog a day http://andrewskelton.net.
Having uploaded some flower photos taken during my time in Africa, I couldn’t resist messing about with one of the first photos I took after landing in the Masai Mara. I know, I know, I said i don’t like messing about with photos – but I was so excited at seeing my first wild African Elephant setting the camera to black and white was the last thing on my mind.
One of the beauties of digital photography compared to film, is that you don’t have trouble changing films half way through a shoot if you suddenly want to take a black and white photos instead of a colour image. It was possible with film cameras but it as such a faff – marking the image etc. Too much like hard work. Not so these days – couple of presses of buttons on the camera and you’re done.
I didn’t however so I had to do it using software afterwards – still it was pretty painless though I may not repeat it too soon.
I’m not sure what it is or when it first occurred to me, but I just love Elephants. They are my favourite animal in the whole word. They are intelligent, loyal, great parents and will soon let you know if you pee them off!
This is a lovely pic Andrew and mono was the perfect choice.
Now I’m sure my avatar is very green!
