Bald Eagle, originally uploaded by andyskelton.
I’ve photographed this bird over several years, if I really look back I suspect it’s more than several, and I thought I’d taken every shot possible. I’ve taken a plethora of shots from the side as it is calling, in fact it’s one of these early shots I’ve been using on my semi-retired website for a couple of years now. There’s something about this angle that seems more engaging and whilst I know wildlife experts shun anthropomorphising animals, I grew up watching Johnny Morris and don’t feel anything wrong with such things. After all anything that makes us empathise with anything else shouldn’t be readily dismissed.
As you may have guessed from the rest of the birds recently uploaded, these were all captive birds at the wonderful Hawk Conservancy as mentioned in my last post. This bird, Cheyenne, sits out on a perch and has a shed behind for cover; the darkness of the shed, and the combination of ISO and flashgun resulted in a nice dark background accentuating the head and body of the bird well.
If you like this or any of the other posts/images, feel free to leave me a comment. At the moment it feels like being in a empty room and talking to yourself.. so it’s always nice to hear a friendly voice answer.
This is a great shot! I saw it and was immediately drawn to your blog to see your other birds. Great job!
