Secretary Bird

Secretary Bird, originally uploaded by andyskelton.

a fun but at the same time frustrating day at the Hawk Conservancy Trust near Andover (UK).  As ever, the flying displays and commentaries were engaging and entertaining.  My trust old 80-400mm lens, however, (which has been a 300-400mm for a while now due to a mechanical issue) has now started to have problems with focusing causing some consternation to say the least.

Luckily my Dad was there with some of his lenses so between us we were able to get some good shots.

Taken with a 600mm prime lens, the secretary bird was almost too close! Certainly trying to get any shots of the whole bird was nigh on impossible but I was pleased with the close ups showing the fantastic headdress of this unusual raptor.
